Biblical Tour

Day 1

Athens arrival

Upon arrival Athens International Airport, a representative of Aristotle Travel will meet and assist you with your transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day for leisure, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Athens

Enjoy a full-city Athens tour today starting with a visit to the famous Parthenon, the Erechteum, and a visit to Mars’ Hill (or Areopagus) (Acts 17:22), where Apostle Paul delivered his well-known sermon. Following is a visit to the Metropolis Orthodox Cathedral, with walls built from the marble of 72 demolished churches. Next on the itinerary is a walk to Panagia Gorgoepikoos, a domed cruciform church built in the 12th century entirely from Pentelic marble, followed by a tour of Kapnikarea, a charming Byzantine church from the 11th century. Next we will visit the 11th century Moni Kaisarianis monastery founded in the 11th century, located in the wooded valley of Mount Ymittos. The tour concludes with a tour passing the highlights of modern Athens: the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament House, Presidential Palace, Panathenian Stadium, Temple of Olympian Zeus and the National Library..

Day 3

Athens, Corinth

This tour day begins with a visit to the Byzantine Museum, housing a unique collection of icons, sculptures, wall paintings, ecclesiastical vestments, and jewellery dating back to the Byzantine Empire (330-1453 AD). Following is a journey to Corinth via the famous Corinthian Canal, followed by a tour of the church established there by Apostle Paul. Other sites in Corinth include the Agora, the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Odeon, the Bema, and Gallio’s Seat. Next stop is a visit to the Archaeological museum and a tour of the ruins of a 5th century Christian basilica at the Ancient Port of Cenchreae.

Day 4

Kalambaka

We depart from Athens the today for Kalambaka, with a stop on the way at the 11th century Byzantine Monastery of Ossios Loukas. The cathedral, decorated with splendid mosaics, is architecturally one of the finest Byzantine monuments in Greece.

Day 5

Meteora

After our stay in Kalambaka we will visit the spectacular region of Meteora, where you will see thousand-year-old Byzantine monasteries perched high on colossal gray and reddish boulders. First built in the 14th century by monks seeking isolation and salvation, the site now exhibits superb icons, old manuscripts, unique mosaics and frescoes.

Day 6

Thessalonica

Next on the itinerary is the beautiful city of Thessalonica, where we will visit the Vlatadon Monastery, built on the spot believed to have been the home of Jason, followed by a tour of the city, where you will see the Egnatian Road, the Galerius Arch, and the Citadel. The tour will stop at St. Demetrius’ Church and St. Sophia Church, the latter being the first Christian church in Thessalonica.

Day 7

Mount Athos

This day of the tour features a cruise along the west coast of spectacular Mount Athos, also known as the Holy Mountain, where you will see some of the 20 monasteries built into the rocks. Following the cruise, you will return to Thessalonica for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8

Philippi, Kavala

Following your stay in Thessalonica you will embark on a picturesque drive to Kavala via the city of Philippi, where Paul established the first church in Europe. Here you will see the river where Lydia and possibly the jailer were baptized and the ancient Forum and jail where Paul and Silas were imprisoned. Return to Thessalonica for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9

Thessalonica departure

Transfer to Thessalonica International Airport for departure flight.
